At the June 8 meeting Chief Brentar introduced a representative from Enterprise Fleet Management, who reviewed a proposed fleet leasing program that City staff said could reduce vehicle replacement and maintenance costs.
The presenter described a review of 20 city vehicles and projected savings through earlier vehicle replacement cycles and equity recovery from vehicle sales. Council members asked about telematics, maintenance responsibilities, lease terms and likely long-term financial impacts. City Manager Pastue said other communities had positive experiences with the program.
Following discussion the council directed staff to continue evaluating the program and prepare a detailed proposal for council review in July. Public commenters later urged staff to examine Eaton County’s experience before finalizing recommendations.
