Prescott, Wis. — The Prescott City Council voted June 8 to allow overnight parking in the Mercord Mill municipal lot and to replace signage to reflect the change, aligning Mercord Mill with the Orange Street and Cherry Street municipal lots where overnight parking was already permitted.
City Administrator Matt Wolf said the lot had been posted to prohibit overnight parking after repaving as part of the Riverfront Phase 2 project, but several residents told staff they had previously parked overnight without issue. Chief Michaels advised that enforcing an overnight parking prohibition is resource-intensive because officers must document vehicles parked overnight and verify continued presence the following morning. The council approved the motion (Hintz/Bettis) by voice vote with no negative votes. City code § 545-13.A continues to govern posted restrictions for municipal lots.
The change standardizes parking rules downtown; the council did not adopt additional enforcement resources at this meeting.
