Hospital officials report October loss, equipment failures and nearly 30 ambulance transfers since summer

Hospital representatives Marus Augustin and Nataly Sanley updated the Polk County Board of County Commissioners on facility operations during the Nov. 25 meeting in Osceola.
They said October produced good revenue but higher expenses led to an operating and overall loss for the month. A cost-report settlement payment is anticipated to be received by the hospital (referred to in the minutes as "Annie Jeffrey") in January or February 2026.
The presenters reported two equipment failures: the IT server-room cooling system has failed and carries an estimated replacement cost of about $10,000, and an upright freezer in the dietary department also quit working. Augustin and Sanley thanked the board for adding concrete to part of the storage building north of the hospital that houses the ambulance.
The minutes note the ambulance entered service this past summer and has completed nearly 30 transfers to date. The Foundation for Annie Jeffrey plans a wine-and-beer fundraiser on Feb. 9, 2026, and hospital volunteers will celebrate 30 years with a Christmas party on Dec. 9.
