Polk County Road Department: longtime employee retires; milling, asphalt work and a bridge deck hole reported

The Polk County Board of County Commissioners received personnel and operations updates from county road staff during the Oct. 21 meeting.
Allen Bower submitted a letter of retirement from the Road Department after nearly 21 years of service; the board thanked him for his long service. Highway Superintendent Theis briefed commissioners on ongoing and planned road work: a contractor plans to begin the milling portion of the Osceola North project the following day, with new asphalt to be laid on Shelby North by the end of the week. The superintendent reported a hole has developed in the deck of the county bridge located between County Roads 123 and 124 on K Road; the crew cannot trim additional trees until replacement lines are installed on the excavator’s boom. NIRMA will provide training for the road crew at their Nov. 5 meeting.
No formal board action was recorded on the projects during this meeting; the update was informational and the board adjourned at 11:35 a.m.
