Students and parents urge board to prioritize renovations at Magruder, Eastern and other aging schools

Emily Moylan and other parents recalled a ceiling collapse during a spring musical and an HVAC panel incident that landed on the gym floor. They pressed the board to commit to placing Magruder next in the renovation queue and to follow objective criteria such as FCI scores rather than ad hoc boundary studies. Selena Paulos described Eastern Middle School as ‘‘crumbling’’ and said it has not had a renovation since 1976.
Board members acknowledged concerns. Natalie Zimmerman said an educational specification report for Eastern Middle School was on the agenda and encouraged allocating planning dollars to expand options for renovating Magruder. Trustees emphasized they will consider capital planning criteria and asked staff to provide details in future budget and CIP work.
