Sherborn Board of Health approves several permits, reviews policy draft and schedules community survey sessions

The Sherborn Board of Health approved multiple permits and reviewed several administrative items at its May 6 meeting.
Approvals and votes included: the Dunkin' grease-trap variance (see separate item), the building-permit approval for conversion at 19 Peckham Hill Road with septic-related conditions (4-0-1), approval of the well and septic design for 73 Forest Street (motion passed; RH abstained), and approval of the building permit for 45 Rockwood Street as a 4-bedroom, 9-room dwelling (5-0). Staff reported at 102 Washington Street an unapproved sewer connection from a barn had been discovered during a May 1 Title 5 inspection; the system passed inspection but an engineered plan and approvals will be required to formalize the connection or the homeowners may choose to decommission the barn apartment.
Health Agent Mark Oram confirmed a historical design capacity of 499 gallons per day for the Sherborn "Out." The proposal to convert the use from retail to a 30-seat assembly hall (calculated at 15 gallons per day per seat) falls within that capacity; Board members indicated comfort with the use and no formal vote was required (Commissioner Constantine recused as an abutter).
Administrator Sarah Lapin reported that the Charles River Public Health District community survey would open May 8 and two listening sessions were scheduled (May 19, 7:00–8:00 PM via Zoom; May 20, 1:00–2:00 PM hybrid). Lapin also summarized discussions with the Finance Director and Town Administrator on a draft fee-waiver policy and said the Board would revisit the policy at a future meeting; in the interim summer vendor permits will be handled case by case. The Board approved annual food establishment permits for D/S Youth Baseball Snack Shack, TC Scoops, and Sam’s Ice Cream (conditional on compliance) and approved temporary permits for the Friends of the Sherborn Library Craft Fair and a Wildfire Catering event (all motions passed unanimously).
The meeting concluded with farewell remarks for outgoing Board member Diana Hoek and adjourned at 11:02 PM.
