Pembroke board authorizes payments, approves highway conference and forms park memorial committee

At the Aug. 22 meeting the Pembroke Town Board authorized payment of Abstract #16, approved the Highway Superintendent’s attendance at an industry conference, agreed to a memorial bench installation and tasked Nicole Begin and Councilwoman Deborah Conti to form a committee to create park memorial guidelines.
Deputy Clerk Kathy Gallaway asked the Pembroke Town Board for permission to plant a tree in the town park in memory of her son; the board agreed and Gallaway will coordinate with Kevin Reeves on placement. The board also noted a Kiwanis memorial bench for Patricia Reeves will be installed in September and the Kiwanis will reimburse the town. Because this is the seventh memorial requested in the park, the board asked Town Clerk Nicole M. Begin and Councilwoman Deborah Conti to form a committee to select a memorial area and draft guidelines.
The board authorized routine fiscal and personnel items. On a motion by Supervisor Thomas Schneider and seconded by Councilwoman Kathleen Manne, the board approved payment of Abstract #16, confirming the listed operating expenses are within the 2024 working budgets and create no additional cost to the town (vote: 5‑0). The board also approved a request from Highway Superintendent Scott Turner to attend the NYSAOTSOH 95th Annual Conference, Education Symposium & Expo, Sept. 24–27, 2024, at Holiday Valley Resort; minutes state the cost is within the Highway Department's operational budget (vote: 5‑0).
Councilwoman Kathleen Manne said she will distribute new harassment training emails from a new provider at month‑end. Supervisor Thomas Schneider reported the new Assessor, Jim Kirsch, "will be working toward a revaluation in 2025," that Kirsch's clerk will begin in September, and that the Assessor and Zoning departments have agreed on a new report system to keep assessment files current.
The board reviewed a Toshiba copier quote for future discussion and recessed formal business. Councilwoman Kathleen Manne moved to adjourn at 6:50 P.M.; Councilman Edward G. Arnold Jr. seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
