West Hartford board accepts chairresignation; elects Dr. Cheryl Greenberg as chair

The West Hartford Board of Education accepted the resignation of Dr. Mark Overmyer-Velazquez as chair and unanimously elected Dr. Cheryl Greenberg as the new chair during its Sept. 5, 2017 regular meeting at Town Hall.
Superintendent Tom Moore called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. and recorded the roll call and Pledge of Allegiance. A motion "THAT the Board of Education accept the resignation of Dr. Overmyer-Velazquez as Chairperson" was made by Dr. Mark Overmyer-Velazquez and seconded by Dr. Cheryl Greenberg; the motion passed unanimously. Moore then called for nominations for chair. Dr. Overmyer-Velazquez moved and Ms. Tammy Exum seconded a nomination for Dr. Greenberg; the board passed the motion unanimously. Moore passed the gavel to Dr. Greenberg, who will serve as chair until the upcoming elections.
Board members thanked Dr. Overmyer-Velazquez for his service and wished him well in his new position. No formal statement of the new chairb4s agenda was recorded at the meeting. The board also conducted routine organizational votes later in the meeting to nominate Mrs. Blanks as vice chair and Ms. Exum as secretary; those nominations passed unanimously.
