West Hartford Board adopts revised graduation requirements, ratifies secretaries’ contract and advances 2020–21 calendar review

The West Hartford Board of Education on Feb. 20 accepted, on second reading, revisions to Policy 6310 governing graduation requirements and ratified a multi-year contract with the West Hartford Federation of Educational Secretaries.
Dr. Greenberg moved and Ms. Polun seconded the adoption of the revised Policy 6310; the motion passed unanimously. The revisions were proposed by the board’s Policy Subcommittee. The board did not provide additional details about specific changes to course or credit requirements during the meeting.
The board also ratified a negotiated agreement with the West Hartford Federation of Educational Secretaries covering July 1, 2018 through June 30, 2022. Mr. Zydanowicz moved and Ms. Polun seconded the ratification; the motion passed unanimously.
Separately, the board took a first reading of a proposed calendar for the 2020–21 school year. Mr. Pauluk moved and Dr. Greenberg seconded the motion to review the calendar as a first reading. During discussion the board requested that Superintendent Tom Moore prepare additional calendar options for a future vote; the board did not adopt a final calendar at this meeting.
The board approved the minutes of its Feb. 5, 2019 meeting (motion by Mr. Pauluk; seconded by Dr. Thomas-Farquharson) and adjourned at 8:20 p.m.
