West Hartford Board adopts 2019–2020 Capital Improvement Plan, accepts first reading of revised graduation policy

The West Hartford Board of Education on Feb. 5 unanimously adopted the school district's 2019'2020 Capital Improvement Plan and accepted a first reading of a revised policy on graduation requirements.
Mr. Zydanowicz moved and Mr. Pauluk seconded that the board "THAT the Board of Education adopt the Capital Improvement Plan for 2019-2020." The motion passed unanimously. Later in the meeting Ms. Polun moved and Dr. Greenberg seconded that the Board accept as a first reading the revised Policy 6310 ' Graduation Requirements; that motion also passed unanimously.
Superintendent Tom Moore told the board that a decision tied to the graduation discussion will be made after April 1. Moore also acknowledged student achievements, congratulating Sedgwick Middle School students for placing third in the national Kids Lit competition and noting Conard High School student Megan Goulet's recognition by the NCWIT Aspirations in Computing program.
Board members approved routine business: Mr. Zydanowicz moved and Dr. Greenberg seconded approval of the financial report for the period ending Dec. 31, 2018; the motion passed unanimously. Dr. Greenberg moved and Mr. Zydanowicz seconded approval of revised minutes from the Jan. 15, 2019 meeting; that motion likewise passed unanimously.
During the public-communication portion of the meeting, Jillian Gilchrest of 329 Fern Street addressed the board about school start times. The board did not take formal action on that topic at this meeting.
The board announced upcoming meetings including the superintendent's budget presentation on Mar. 5 and a public hearing and budget workshop on Mar. 27. The meeting adjourned at 8:40 p.m.
