West Hartford schools detail security upgrades and anonymous reporting app

Assistant Superintendent Dr. Andrew Morrow and Director of School Security and Safety Eric Dency presented an update on district security and safety initiatives at the Nov. 7 meeting.
Presenters said the district continues to coordinate with the West Hartford Police Department (WHPD) and West Hartford Fire Department (WHFD) on safety procedures. Staff described a consistent daily presence of School Resource Officers and Community Resource Officers, increased police patrols, ongoing review of building security protocols, upgraded integrated video systems, replacement of door locks, renovated school entryways and joint training exercises with first responders.
The district also reported a recent rollout of the Anonymous Alerts app at secondary schools, enabling students and parents to send confidential reports about bullying, cyberbullying and other safety concerns directly to school officials.
Why it matters: The measures are intended to reduce safety risks, improve reporting of incidents and strengthen coordination with law enforcement and fire officials. The board asked questions about implementation; presenters indicated the effort is ongoing.
