West Hartford board rejects meeting time change; ratifies two AFSCME contracts

At its Nov. 7, 2018 meeting the West Hartford School District Board of Education defeated a motion to change the board’s own meeting start time and approved several routine items, including the ratification of two labor agreements.
Mr. Levine moved and Ms. Polun seconded a proposal to change Board of Education meeting start times from 7:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., beginning Jan. 15, 2019; the motion did not pass.
The board unanimously ratified two negotiated agreements with Local 818, AFSCME Council 4. Mr. Pauluk moved and Mrs. Blanks seconded ratification of the Local 818-051 cafeteria managers contract (July 1, 2018–June 30, 2022); Rick Ledwith summarized key provisions including wages, health insurance and pension. Mrs. Blanks moved and Ms. Polun seconded ratification of the Local 818-027 Custodian III contract for the same period; that motion also passed unanimously.
The board also approved the financial report for the period ending Sept. 30, 2018 (motion by Mr. Pauluk; seconded by Mr. Zydanowicz) and approved the minutes of the Oct. 16, 2018 meeting (motion by Ms. Polun; seconded by Dr. Thomas-Farquharson). The meeting adjourned at 9:48 p.m. on a unanimous motion.
