Board approves transfer of Engine 4 to career center, sells 2017 Quint to South Bend

The Elkhart City Board of Public Works on June 2 approved two fire-department asset moves: transferring Engine 4 to the Elkhart Career Center and selling a 2017 Quint fire engine to the South Bend Fire Department.
Josh Holt of Central Garage asked the board to approve transfer paperwork and to authorize him to sign the title for Engine 4 to the Elkhart Career Center, noting the transfer process began in 2016 and legal had reviewed the transaction. "All I'm asking you guys that I need is to just basically just approve the transfer to the Elkhart Career Center for this old fire truck," Holt said. The board approved the transfer by voice vote.
The board also approved an agreement to sell a 2017 Quint to South Bend for $540,000. The fire chief (unnamed in the record) said the engine no longer fits the department’s strategic plan and that the sale price was a favorable recovery relative to the department’s earlier purchase price. "We almost 10 years ago we paid a little over 700,000 for it... we came out pretty good with the 540," the chief said. The sale motion passed on a voice vote.
Both actions were approved during the board’s consent and contract sections; staff said the transfers and sale follow standard legal review and procurement procedures.
