Winthrop board adopts harassment policies, advances immunization and transportation policy updates

The board discussed statutory changes to immunization exemptions: "You can no longer claim a religious or philosophical exemption," the policy presenter said while reviewing statutory requirements; the presenter also noted that certain students with IEP-related grandfathered exemptions were an exception called out in the policy language.
Other first-reading changes included adding nicotine to weapons/violence policy language and clarifying dropout-prevention approaches that rely on individualized plans for students in need rather than a generic annual action plan.
