The Elkhart City Board of Public Works and Utilities on June 16 approved a Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area application for 523 Tap and Grill so its catering arm, identified in the application as Vinyl Tap and Table, may serve within the city’s DORA at approved events.
Drew, presenting the application, said the business had previously been approved in the city and received state approval; the DORA approval allows the catering business to serve DORA cups at events and within the DORA area subject to event permits and any additional event requirements. Board members asked whether the DORA authorization would cover catering anywhere within the DORA; staff confirmed catering operations would be allowed in the DORA for approved events but that event organizers must still submit required event paperwork.
The board approved the application by voice vote. Staff said they would follow up if the applicant requested additional privileges, such as exclusive bar service for particular events.
