Kings Park board approves contracts, budget transfers and pay items at June 16 meeting

The Kings Park Central School District Board of Education on June 16 approved a slate of routine fiscal and personnel items, including a $731,500 set of budget transfers to cover year-end overspending and a $19,000 credit to the William T. Rogers Middle School cafeteria air-conditioning contract.

Board President Daryl Bianco led the meeting. Business official Cynthia Neehan told trustees the transfers were needed to cover atypical expenses this year — including BOCES services, legal fees, workers’ compensation and special-education tuition — and that savings in other lines would be used to replenish overspent accounts. The board voted to authorize transfers totaling $731,500 to ensure lines are not overspent when books are closed on June 30, 2026.

Trustees also approved an allowance authorization and change order (H3CCO001) with Central Air Corporation that reduces the original contract sum for William T. Rogers cafeteria air-conditioning work by $19,000 to a new contract total cited in the motion as $462,167. Superintendent Dr. Craig presented the item as a credit back to the district.

The board approved a preliminary BOCES services commitment for 2026–27; the preliminary amount presented in the meeting was $2,659,260, and administrators said the number may change as student needs become clearer. Trustees also approved the district’s recommended non-contract hourly pay rates and base salary increases for 12 non-aligned employees for 2026–27, consistent with the 2026–27 adopted budget.

Other approved items included: - A memorandum of agreement with the Kings Park Classroom Teachers Association (KPCTA) to restructure the middle-school orchestra program to align with grade-level groupings and authorization for the board president to sign the MOA. - Authorization for the district to participate in the RIC 1 Risk Operations Center for data-privacy support and approval of required supplemental data-privacy agreements with the vendors listed in the resolution. - A contract authorization for speech and language services with the provider listed in the resolution and acceptance of Committee on Special Education (CSE) meeting recommendations and Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) dated between April 29 and June 12, 2026. - Health-service agreements for students placed in private schools in other districts (amounts presented in the resolution) and approval to add verified new vendors to the district vendor list.

Board members voted on each item by voice vote; floor discussion was brief and procedural for most motions. No public commenters addressed these agenda items during the allotted public comment period.

The board’s action completes routine fiscal housekeeping and provider arrangements ahead of the fiscal-year close and the start of the 2026–27 school year. The next board meeting and organizational meeting is scheduled for July 7 at 7:30 p.m. at Kings Park High School.
