Silver Lake Council adopted two administrative ordinances and accepted routine financial reports at its May 6 meeting.
Planning, Zoning & Insurance Chair Phil Kaplan summarized Ordinance 23-2026, the annual renewal for property and liability insurance, saying the premium rose roughly 3.8% while property values increased about 5%. Kaplan commended Clerk-Treasurer Sean Housley for providing policy information in advance. Council suspended the rules and adopted the ordinance on a 7-0 roll call.
Finance Chair Suzanne Garrett presented Ordinance 22-2026 to advance Christopher Sample from Service Worker Step 1 to Step 3; Interim Administrator Greg(or)y (Service Director Ben Gregory provided supporting comments about Sample’s 24 years with Kent and other experience). Council suspended the rules and adopted the pay-step ordinance 7-0.
Council accepted the check register dated April 30 after a brief question from Councilor Chris Scott about a stipend payment to Mr. Bellinger; Clerk-Treasurer Sean Housley explained the stipend and premium deductions and said the amount should normalize going forward. Council also heard announcements about Senior Café events and an America 250 Arboretum event on July 2.
The Council set a potential special meeting for May 20 to discuss OHM’s water supply study and will meet next on May 18 at 7 p.m.
