Mayor outlines cybersecurity .gov transition and operations updates; council hears storm cleanup and public works plans

During the March 16 meeting Mayor Dunphy reported several administrative and operations updates. The Village applied for grant funding to move its web presence from villageofsilverlake.com to silverlakeoh.gov and the mayor said the Village is enrolled in the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) scanning program; staff plan to adopt .gov email addresses, stronger passwords and multi-factor authentication as part of the transition. The mayor said the Village will move to new servers the week after the meeting and that Quality IP’s services will continue to support the change.
Police Chief Steve Justice reported the Easter Egg Hunt distributed about 3,000 eggs to roughly 40 children and summarized storm-related damage around the village. Service Director Ben Gregory said Barberton Tree removed a large downed tree and will return to collect wood; he gave a catch-basin cleaning update (25 completed so far, target 80 this spring), said Hercules Tree finished mature-tree pruning and the service crew completed young-tree training on about 180 trees, and described a change to summer mowing: contracted landscaping will maintain the islands while the service crew will maintain roughly 8 acres of village grounds.
Council discussed the location and potential remote hosting of servers; the mayor said moving servers off-site was considered but not cost-effective at present and that servers will remain on-site. Council members asked staff to explore options such as acquiring a cooling unit from another workspace to protect the servers. No formal action was taken; these items were reported for council information and operational direction.
