Police Chief Steve Justice reported several public-safety items to the Village Council on Feb. 17, including a warning about ongoing scams, traffic enforcement, and community outreach events.
Chief Justice said a recent scam resulted in a resident losing $40,000 and that a separate case involving a $20,000 theft will go to trial on March 2. He advised residents to report scam attempts to the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center at ic3.gov.
The chief also noted a traffic enforcement stop in which an individual was cited for driving 90 mph on Kent Road, a gas leak reported on McCormick Road/Lake Road that was inspected by Enbridge, and that Officer Hostetler will be on paternity leave. The Police Association's Annual Easter Egg Hunt is scheduled for Saturday, March 14, from 12 to 2 p.m. at the Church in Silver Lake.
Chief Justice answered a question from Mrs. Meyer about how scam attempts should be reported and pointed to ic3.gov for reporting guidance.
