Deputy director reports corrections department under budget and near full staffing; ADP rises

Amber Redmond, deputy director of corrections, delivered the Board of Corrections report for May during the June 23 meeting, highlighting budget and population trends and recent audit activity.
Redmond said the department was “under budget $684,000” through the 11th month of the fiscal year and that overtime declined another $8,000 from the previous month, with overtime spending around $267,000 for May. She said the records department collected over $820,000 in bond payments during the month.
Redmond reported staffing and program figures: the department lost eight correctional officers below sergeant rank during May but was 99% staffed across correctional officer ranks as of May 31. The average daily population for May was 1,129, an increase of 29 from the prior period; early June counts have exceeded 1,200 on some days. Pretrial services admitted 214 individuals in May and 635 people participated in the 24/7 sobriety program; work-release and house-arrest admissions were low by month.
On compliance and audits, Redmond said the department received final approval on its PRIA audit and an initial report from the National Commission on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC); the department is preparing for an ACA audit in October. She also noted eight emergency 911 transports and eight hospital admissions during May and said the facility saw a slight increase in total days of hospitalization to 35.
Redmond recognized several staff achievements and corrections-week recognitions: Lieutenant Katie Sanduski was named National Training Officer of the Year by the American Jail Association; other staff received department awards and were added to the department’s lasting legacy wall. She closed by taking questions from commissioners.
