Rome selectmen approve minutes, sign RSU #18 warrant and discuss newsletter costs, parking upgrades and website launch

At its May 18 meeting, the Rome Board of Selectmen approved the minutes from its May 4 meeting and signed and returned the RSU #18 warrant and notice of election to Town Clerk Julie Morrison.

1st Selectman Kelly Archer called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. and, during new and old business, the board discussed town communications and administrative staffing. Board members noted a concern that, because not all slips were returned for the May newsletter, half of the annual newsletter budget has already been spent. The Selectboard said it will conduct interviews on Tuesday for an administrative assistant to help with town communications and other duties.

Under new business, the board discussed getting quotes to upgrade the Community Center driveway and parking area, emphasizing employee parking near the building. No motion to award work or specific funding was recorded in the minutes.

Town Clerk/Tax Collector/BMV Agent Julie Morrison reported that files have been updated for a migration to a new town website, which is scheduled to go live on May 27, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. Morrison and 1st Selectman Kelly Archer said they will represent the town at the RSU #18 district budget meeting at Messalonskee High School later this week.

Procedural motions recorded in the meeting minutes included a motion by 3rd Selectman Philip Burnworth, seconded by 1st Selectman Kelly Archer, to approve the May 4 minutes (approved 2-0-1). The meeting was adjourned at 7:45 p.m. on a motion by Burnworth, seconded by 2nd Selectman Larry DiPietro (approved 3-0). The Selectmen announced the next regular meeting for Monday, June 1, 2026 at 6:00 p.m.
