Natrona County Library to open Seed Library March 21, launches NEA Big Read of Lab Girl

The Natrona County Library will open a Seed Library on March 21 on the library’s second floor, Adult Services Manager Betsy O'Neil told the board March 11.
The Seed Library will provide seed packets — vegetables, herbs and flowers — to patrons, with a limit of six packets per individual. Participants are encouraged to harvest seeds at the end of the growing season and return them for future distribution. The program is a partnership with the Natrona County Master Gardeners and Grow Casper and is intended to boost community engagement and education.
O'Neil also said the library will launch a community reading program featuring Lab Girl by Hope Jahren at the same time. The community read is funded by an NEA Big Read grant; the library has purchased a large quantity of books to distribute and to support related programming.
Board members did not request further action at the meeting; staff will proceed with program rollout and public outreach.
