Council debates front-yard pool rules, basketball-hoop enforcement and summer safety steps

On legislation, councilors said one of two ordinances on the agenda would make movable pools in front yards unlawful because such structures are not grandfathered. A council member described a pool that had been moved to a front yard within a city easement and said police officers had previously spoken to the property owner. "No, they are not [grandfathered], because it's a movable structure," a council member said, and other members noted that once an ordinance passes enforcement would follow.

Separately, a resident reported repeatedly moving basketball hoops that neighbors put in the street, describing them as a hazard for buses and emergency vehicles. Councilors discussed asking the code officer to send a letter and suggested having staff, including Billy, speak with the property owner. "You cannot have basketball hoops on the street," a council member said, citing the ordinance and safety risks for buses and fire trucks.

Councilors also touched on community events and public-safety coordination.
