Carbon County commissioners met Jan. 27, 2026, and accepted the treasurer’s quarterly collateral report, approved a letter of support for a Bureau of Land Management trail stewardship grant and approved a consent agenda that included routine records and a $4,286.29 variance for a local plumbing contractor.
Treasurer Leah Niemi read the quarterly collateral report as of December 2025 and reported total cash and bank holdings of $32,199,538.09. Commissioner Bill Bullock moved to accept the Treasurer’s Collateral Report; Commissioner Scott Miller seconded and the motion carried.
The board voted to approve a letter of support for the 2026 BLM Trail Steward Grant Application. Commissioner Scott Miller made the motion and Commissioner Bill Bullock seconded; the motion carried.
The consent agenda was approved by Commissioner Bill Bullock with a second from Commissioner Scott Miller. Items listed on the consent agenda included amended commissioner board representatives; the Commissioners’ Proceedings for Jan. 6 and Jan. 8, 2026; the Noxious Weed MWCA annual training agenda; an approved travel request for Barbara Krizek for October 2026; and a variance request for Granite Peak Plumbing in the amount of $4,286.29.
Minutes record that the Volunteer Fire Assistance Grant Application Approval (Wildland Fire Shelters) was postponed to Thursday, Jan. 29, 2025. The year in that entry is inconsistent with the 2026 meeting date recorded elsewhere in the minutes and may be a typographical error; the minutes do not clarify whether the board intended Jan. 29, 2026.
During district reports, Commissioner Scott Miller (District 1) said the new dozer is operational; the Zentner Pit is set for reclamation; Meeteetse South road will be reclaimed; new gravel is planned for Robertson Draw; and a new culvert was installed for Silver Tip. Miller also noted an opening on the Bridger Cemetery Board and said he will attend upcoming NACo and Association of Government Risk Pools meetings in Nashville.
Commissioner Scott Blain (District 2) reported that tree trimming work is underway, that he and Miller exchanged assignments for representation on the Beartooth RC&D and Bridgemont Health and Wellness boards, and that the Edgar Lagoon repair timeline was updated to account for delays caused by a government shutdown. He also said the Joliet Fire District is finalizing a land transfer in Boyd with the Roberts Fire District. Commissioner Bill Bullock (District 3) said the county’s plow truck and sander are operational, that signage and a bridge project for Lower Luther Road are being finalized, and that Area 2 Agency on Aging will renew the county commodity program with a matching grant; he added projects at the Red Lodge Road Shop are complete.
Administrative Officer Angela Newell reported that Fire 2 is working on a process to annex the municipality of Bridger into its district. Newell also said the bid for Cedarwood demolition was awarded to Askin Construction and that final deconstruction documents are expected by the end of the week. Commissioner Blain noted the Fair board is seeking a member from the Red Lodge District.
