Reinbeck Mayor Jamie Eiffler opened a special meeting and the Proposed Property Tax Levy hearing at 5 p.m. April 6, where City Administrator Julie Wilkerson reviewed the levy numbers and the reasons for an increase.
Wilkerson told the council the current certified property tax levy rate is $12.10487 and that, if the budget remained unchanged, the levy rate would have fallen to $11.87046. She said increases in employee wages and benefits, along with higher insurance costs, would instead raise the levy rate to $12.10245 for the coming fiscal year.
The hearing record shows no written or oral comments for or against the proposed levy. Councilmember Johnson moved to close the hearing; Councilmember Trepp seconded. The minutes record "4 ayes" and state the motion carried. The hearing was closed at 5:05 p.m.
Following the hearing, Councilmember Bueghly moved to adjourn, seconded by Councilmember Wambold; again the minutes record "4 ayes" and the meeting was adjourned at 5:05 p.m.
The minutes indicate the council members present at roll call were Wambold, Johnson, Trepp and Bueghly; Councilmember Pease was absent. Also noted as present were City Administrator Julie Wilkerson and Christie Bolin. The minutes will be presented for approval at the next regular council meeting.
