Reinbeck council opens hearing, gives first reading to raise water and garbage rates

At the conclusion of the hearing, Council member Johnson moved to give the ordinances their first consideration and adopt the first reading; Council member Trepp seconded. A roll-call vote recorded Wambold, Pease, Johnson, Trepp and Bueghly voting aye; the motion carried. The ordinances would increase water rates by 2% and raise garbage and recycling rates by $0.50 per unit. The council set the second reading for June 1, 2026.
The measures are ordinances changing local utility fees; no additional public testimony was received at the hearing. The council’s next formal step is the second reading, where members may amend or adopt the ordinances for final passage.
