Reinbeck council approves 10½-foot variance for bank ATM canopy; authorizes abatement at 506 Broad

Alex Bower of Civil Concepts & Development presented a variance request for the bank’s ATM lane canopy, explaining the canopy’s overhang exceeded the east-side setback. The requested 10½-foot variance would permit the canopy’s encroachment so that the canopy could extend to 9½ feet from the east property line; the canopy columns themselves meet setback requirements. Council member Dale Wambold moved to approve the variance and Council member Pease seconded; the motion passed with five ayes.
Separately, the council discussed property at 506 Broad, noting the owner did not respond to a city letter that required a reply by Jan. 5. Council member Johnson moved that the city attorney send a follow-up letter and proceed with nuisance-abatement procedures; Council member Bueghly seconded and the motion carried (5 ayes).
