The Sawyer County Criminal Justice Coordinating Council heard a jail report Tuesday that put the facility’s average daily population at 50 inmates, about 14.5 of whom were female and 35.5 male. Staff reported roughly 27.25 people in pre‑sentence incarceration and about 8.75 sentenced inmates; four people were on electronic monitoring the day the report was generated.
The report noted ongoing programming in the jail and asked whether items such as the law-library and mental-health counseling updates still needed separate agenda entries; members agreed those items had been addressed. The presenter summarized facility programming and recent recognition plans for residents who complete GED/HS‑equivalency work.
Members questioned mental‑health coverage in the jail; presenters said the county has budgeted for a counselor/therapist position and is reassessing mental‑health service delivery after a staff retirement. A recent annual jail inspection, which included inmate interviews, was described as generally positive regarding mental‑health attention.
No formal action was taken; the committee moved on to other agenda items after discussion.
