Mayor Robert Smith called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m. and Mayor Pro Tem Phil Adkison gave the invocation. City Secretary Cheryl Everett called the quorum and noted the presence of Mayor Robert Smith, Mayor Pro Tem Phil Adkison and councilmembers Terry Taliaferro, Frankie Ornduff, Juan Ramos and Sherry Hellwig; City Administrator Rodney McCarty and Police Chief Jeff Burns were listed as present.
On a motion by Mayor Pro Tem Phil Adkison, seconded by Councilmember Terry Taliaferro, the council voted five to zero to approve the Dec. 12, 2024 minutes.
City Secretary Cheryl Everett told the council that employee Candy Cox "would like the opportunity to train for the City Secretary position" and noted Cox's familiarity with accounts payable and daily entries. Councilmembers tabled the agenda item to approve posting for an assistant city secretary; the motion to table passed five to zero.
Councilmember Sherry Hellwig moved — with a second from Terry Taliaferro — to schedule a memorial service for James Freeman on March 22 at 1:00 p.m.; the motion passed five to zero.
Under general monthly reports, Hudson Volunteer Fire Department representative Frankie Ornduff presented the December 2024 report and Police Chief Jeff Burns referenced the departmentdispatch and blotter reports for December 2024. Administrative staff reported that two pumps have been installed at lift stations 2 and 3.
Councilmember Terry Taliaferro moved to adjourn; Councilmember Juan Ramos seconded and the meeting adjourned at 5:15 p.m.
