Hudson council approves Linebarger contract and 30% collection fee for municipal court debts

The City of Hudson Council on March 13 approved a contingency-fee contract with Linebarger Goggan Blair & Simpson LLP to collect unpaid municipal court debts and accounts receivable and set a 30% collection fee on those receivables.
Attorney James Guest of Linebarger presented the contingency contract and the companion order authorizing a 30% collection fee. Councilmember Terry Taliaferro moved to approve the contingency contract; Councilmember Frankie Ornduff seconded and the motion passed unanimously, 3-0. Mayor Pro Tem Phil Adkison moved to approve the 30% collection fee; Councilmember Terry Taliaferro seconded and the motion passed 3-0.
The council also approved a resolution authorizing execution of a county contract with Linebarger to carry out collections. That resolution passed on a 3-0 vote after a motion by Councilmember Taliaferro and a second from Councilmember Ornduff.
The measures collectively authorize Linebarger to pursue municipal-court receivables on a contingency basis under a fee arrangement the council set at 30 percent. The council did not record additional implementation details or a start date in the meeting minutes.
The council took the actions as part of routine agenda business and adjourned at 5:35 p.m.
