Hudson council approves Hudson Hills subdivision, grants Lancewood Baptist Church awning variance

The City of Hudson council unanimously approved two administrative items and two land-use actions at its July 11, 2024 meeting at City Hall.
Mayor Pro Tem Phil Adkison called the meeting to order at 5:02 p.m. and City Secretary Cheryl Everett confirmed a quorum with Mayor Robert Smith absent and five councilmembers present.
Council approved the minutes from the June 13 regular meeting and the June 25 special-called meeting after a motion by Councilmember Sherry Hellwig and a second by Councilmember Terry Taliaferro. The motion carried 5-0.
The council then voted 5-0 to approve the Hudson Hills Subdivision. A representative identified in the sign-in sheet as Trace, representing JB Crawford Construction, LLC, told the council construction will begin with two houses and estimated it will be six to seven months before the development can connect to the city sewer system. The motion to approve the subdivision was moved by Councilmember Terry Taliaferro and seconded by Councilmember Frankie Ornduff.
In a separate land-use action, the council unanimously approved a 28-foot variance to allow an awning over the sidewalk at Lancewood Baptist Church. Interim City Administrator Rodney McCarty told the council the proposed awning "will not go further than the existing awning," which he said had been grandfathered in. Councilmember Sherry Hellwig moved the variance and Councilmember Juan Ramos seconded; the vote was 5-0.
The council received its routine monthly reports. Councilmember Frankie Ornduff referenced the Hudson Volunteer Fire Department's June 2024 report. Police Chief Jeff Burns presented the June dispatch/blotter reports and said the department's new recruit remains in training. Councilmember Sherry Hellwig thanked the Hudson Police Department and public works for their assistance during a recent storm.
Councilmember Terry Taliaferro moved to adjourn the meeting; Councilmember Juan Ramos seconded and the motion passed 5-0. The meeting adjourned at 5:16 p.m.
