Library Director Kari Rose presented two items to the council on Feb. 9: a proposal to advertise city amenities in the Western Iowa Visitors Guide, which the council tabled for later consideration, and a plan to paint the library using paint from a Paint Iowa grant. The council approved the painting plan on a motion by Council Member Bernard, second by Applegate; the motion passed 3-0.
The pool committee provided an update on fundraising, including donor recognition and naming-rights options. Council approved beginning advertising for the 2026 pool season (motion by Bernard, second by Ford). Committee members noted the Fire and Ice event is scheduled Feb. 14 and that an online auction closes Feb. 10 at 10 p.m.
Mayor Brant Miller introduced disposal of surplus fire department equipment; the council approved selling the excess items after a motion by Council Member Ford. The council also set public hearing dates for conveyance of city-owned Lot 10, Lot 11 and Lot 14 in the Dobbs Subdivision (Resolutions 2026-02-01, 02 and 03), and set the Fiscal Year 2027 Proposed Property Tax Levy public hearing for March 30 at 5:00 p.m.
Many routine agenda items — department reports, minutes, claims and license renewals (including Dollar General #6040 and Oakland-Riverside Golf Course) — were approved on the consent agenda earlier in the meeting.
Council adjourned at 7:56 p.m.
