Oakland, Iowa — Library Director Kari Rose told the City Council on March 9 that the library received a $10,000 grant from the American Library Association to install an ADA front-door opener and upgrade front-office electrical work; she said she will return to the council with contractor bids.
Kevin Schechinger and Council Member Bernard updated the council on pool committee activity, reporting approximately $5,000 raised at the recent Fire & Ice fundraiser, noting one committee member resigned and that the committee is arranging a meeting with the Community Foundation to coordinate next steps.
During the open forum, Pottawattamie County Supervisor Susan Miller also announced a Highway 59 bridge replacement project beginning April 1 and a county town hall in Underwood on March 25; Supervisor Miller asked for volunteers to assist with a Veterans Memorial Wall that will visit Lewis Central School over Memorial Day weekend. Resident Cindy Kenealy requested limited watering of newly planted grass after a sewer-line replacement; the council allowed minimal watering during early morning or late evening hours.
The council approved the library-related motion to accept grant-funded project planning when bids are presented; no vote was required at this meeting to accept the grant itself, which Rose reported as awarded by the American Library Association.
