Oakland council approves variance for shed, adopts consent agenda and schedules budget workshop

Oakland City Council approved a zoning variance for 714 Schuman Court and adopted a consent agenda at its Jan. 12 regular session, actions the body took by unanimous votes. Reed moved to approve the agenda earlier in the meeting; Applegate seconded.
The council approved the consent agenda on a motion by Councilmember Ford, seconded by Councilmember Perkins, by a roll-call vote of 5 ayes. Items bundled into the consent agenda included the December Clerk Report, January claims, the December library report, golf course and sheriff’s reports, animal control report, minutes from the Dec. 8 regular session, Jan. 11 fire department minutes and confirmation of fire officers, Resolution 2026-01-01 designating the official newspaper, and a liquor license renewal for the Oakland Fireman’s Association.
A public hearing on a variance for 714 Schuman Court opened at 7:02 p.m.; no public comments were received and the hearing closed at 7:03 p.m. On a motion by Reed and second by Applegate, the council granted the variance allowing the owner to build a shed seven feet from the rear property line; the vote was 5–0.
City Administrator/Clerk Marissa Lockwood told the council the golf course treasurer has retired and the Clerk’s office will assume bookkeeping for the course. Lockwood also announced a budget workshop set for Jan. 27 at 5:00 p.m.
The meeting adjourned at 7:51 p.m. on a motion by Perkins and second by Ford, carried 5–0.
