Local nonprofits request city funding as Okoboji staff warn of financial-software issues

Amy Pas, co-founder of the Lakes Area Dog Park, provided an update and asked the council for funding. Mary Dreier, representing the Dickinson County Museum, also provided an update and made a funding request. Mayor Mary VanderWoude presented a written update and funding request from the Voluntary Action Center (Meals on Wheels). Michael Meyers, who also identified himself as president of the Lakes Ice Arena for that agenda item, provided an update and asked for funding for the arena. The minutes record that no action was taken on any of these funding requests.
City Administrator Michael Meyers reported that City Hall continues to experience challenges with new financial software, which prevented inclusion of a Bank Cash Report and will affect near-term financial reporting. He said staff are completing year-end tasks such as W-2s and 1099s, and that the city must begin development of the FY27 budget, including scheduling Finance and Personnel Committee meetings. Meyers also reported a scheduled meeting with the State of Iowa the following day to discuss a potential Smith's Bay sanitary sewer realignment.
The minutes include a financial summary: total revenues from 12/10/2025 through 01/13/2026 were $49,981.81 and total expenditures were $219,986.07, with the general fund showing $188,129.08 and the water fund showing $30,937.37. No additional action on funding requests was taken at the meeting.
The council adjourned at 6:30 p.m.
