Olds council approves six-year trash contract with WEMIGA

The Olds City Council on Dec. 11 approved a six-year trash collection Contract Service Agreement with WEMIGA Waste Incorporated and authorized Mayor Jason Waterhouse to sign the agreement. The contract includes scheduled rate increases on Jan. 1, 2025, and Jan. 1, 2028. The motion to approve, moved by Councilmember Timothy Breuer and seconded by Councilmember Jim Rohde, passed unanimously, 5–0.
The clerk will prepare an ordinance amendment to implement the rate adjustment for consideration at the next meeting. Council documents on the city-fund bills list show WEMIGA invoices as an ongoing line item (WEMIGA trash removal $1,810.50 in the current bills list), but the contract summary presented to council did not specify the dollar amounts of the scheduled increases; the ordinance amendment is expected to set the formal rate changes.
The action follows routine municipal practice of combining a service contract with later ordinance language to codify customer rates. The council approved the contract during the regular meeting at Olds City Hall; the next council meeting is Jan. 8, 2025.
