Residents raise safety concerns about men’s housing facility; town hall set for Aug. 5

Residents Tim Wilson, Dana Wilson, Bruce Hesser, Michelle Hesser, Ben Fear and Mace Barnes spoke during the citizen forum and said county law enforcement had responded to multiple reports. The group told the council they felt "it was no longer safe in Olds because of things going on which have escalated," prompting the council to authorize a public meeting to address the issue.
City Clerk Beverly Conrad was directed to arrange a town hall meeting with facility contact Ryan Dexter and building owners Gary and Myrna Wenger for Aug. 5 at 6:30 p.m., with Aug. 12 noted as an alternate date. The meeting will take place at Olds City Hall and is intended to cover regulations, security measures and potential remedies to problems reported by neighbors.
The council did not take emergency regulatory action at the July 10 meeting. Residents said they wanted clearer enforcement and for the owners and public safety officials to explain what measures will be taken. County law enforcement involvement was cited as part of the response history but the council did not specify any immediate enforcement steps.
The town hall scheduled for Aug. 5 is the next procedural step; attendees include the property owners and the contact listed by speakers. The council’s action was limited to setting the meeting and requesting staff coordination; no ordinance or permit changes were approved at this session.
