Facilities report: lockers, bathroom work and roof replacement set for Norwood schools

Chris Follin delivered the quarterly facilities report, telling the committee that 78% of work orders in the current period were school-side and that warranty contractors remain responsible for many repairs at Coakley Middle School. He described several near-term projects: locker installations across multiple floors at Coakley (working toward roughly 100 lockers total), epoxy floor work to re-pitch bathroom drains, replacement of the auditorium wall face where students' shoes have damaged the surface, and a gym floor refinishing scheduled for the second week of August.
Follin also summarized work at Willett School: a full roof strip-and-reroof, associated asbestos abatement of adhesive layers under flooring, new insulation and a larger roof hatch for safer access. He said a temporary water service would be installed to the Westover Parkway neighborhood and that custodial staff and a hired contractor will perform classroom floor stripping and waxing to prepare for fall occupancy.
"All things considered, things are moving along pretty well," Follin told the committee, and he emphasized the custodial staff's contributions. He also flagged that some bathroom repairs required cutting out and re-epoxying floor membranes so the drains function properly; work crews were scheduled to begin taking apart affected floor areas before summer programs start.
Committee members praised the thorough report and asked for continued updates as summer projects proceed.
