David Hiltz elected chair as Norwood School Committee finalizes subcommittee assignments

David Hiltz was elected chair of the Norwood School Committee during the committee's reorganization meeting. After nominations and a voice vote, members appointed Hiltz to another term as chair and he thanked the committee for the support: "Thank you to the committee. Thank you for giving me a 2nd term here."
The committee then filled leadership and administrative roles. Michael Zengling was nominated and approved as vice chair by voice vote. The committee also approved a recording secretary, identified in the meeting transcript only by the first name Tim; the transcript did not include Tim's full surname. Committee members discussed standing and ad hoc subcommittees and approved assignments for the coming year, including budget subcommittee, policy subcommittee, capital outlay liaison and graduation-requirements work groups. The motion to approve the slate of committee assignments passed by voice vote, reported as "4 to nothing."
The reorganization included a brief review of longstanding committees: budget, policy, labor negotiations, building committees and student advisory functions. Chair Hiltz noted the committee plans to finalize some assignments at an August workshop and that several advisory groups (for cell-phone/social-media and graduation requirements) will convene in the fall to work on state-driven implementation issues.
The committee adjourned the organizational portion of the meeting and moved into the regular agenda.
