Aurelia council waives readings for four ordinance amendments and approves daycare items under $10,000

The Aurelia City Council at its Sept. 16 meeting approved a package of administrative ordinance amendments, renewed a trade program for city equipment and approved modest funding for the local daycare.
Council moved to approve first readings of Ordinance 709, titled 'An Ordinance Amending the Code of Ordinances of the City of Aurelia, Iowa, by Amending Provisions Pertaining to Operating Budget Preparation'; Ordinance 710, '...Pertaining to Bond Requirements'; Ordinance 711, '...Pertaining to Publication of Minutes'; and Ordinance 712, '...Pertaining to Electronic Meetings.' For each ordinance the council approved the first reading and then on separate motions voted to waive the second and third readings. All motions regarding the ordinances carried with all members present voting "aye."
During the meeting Aurelia Daycare board members Jenna Sievers and Ali Svendsen presented a list of items the daycare needs. Council Member Nelson moved to approve the list not to exceed $10,000, seconded by Council Member Johnson. The roll-call vote recorded Redig, Nelson, Fassler and Johnson as aye; Council Member Bruce abstained; the motion carried.
Council also voted to renew the Builders Governmental Trade Program for the city’s lawn mower on a motion by Council Member Redig, seconded by Council Member Bruce; that motion passed unanimously. The council approved the Street Finance Report for FY2024 on a motion by Council Member Bruce, seconded by Council Member Fassler, and approved hiring John R. Miller as a seasonal employee at $21.50 an hour on a motion by Council Member Nelson, seconded by Council Member Redig.
No police report was given. The clerk reported routine business and the city and utility employees will participate in 'High 5 Friday' at the Aurelia School; the clerk will coordinate the schedule.
