Aurelia council approves routine business, hires underwriter and law firm

The Aurelia City Council at its Aug. 19 meeting approved the consent agenda, accepted July financial reports and authorized routine contracts including an underwriter engagement and a legal-services contract.

Council Member Redig moved and Council Member Nelson seconded approval of the consent agenda; the roll-call vote was unanimous with Redig, Nelson, Fassler, Johnson and Bruce voting “aye.” The council reviewed July financial statements showing revenues of $81,525.09 and disbursements of $79,252.69. An itemized bills-payable listing totaled $37,039.40 and included vendor charges such as Aurelia Electric ($4,014.72), Aurelia Utilities ($4,788.18), Cherokee County Solid Waste ($5,090.45) and Lone Star Enterprises ($3,073.98).

In separate motions, the council unanimously approved an engagement agreement naming D.A. Davidson as underwriter or placement agent (motion by Nelson, second by Fassler) and approved a contract with the law firm Dorsey & Whitney for legal services (motion by Redig, second by Bruce). The transcript does not provide contract amounts for either engagement.

Council members also discussed the duties of the Community Center Coordinator and received Public Works, Police and Clerk reports; the minutes record discussion and reports but do not show further action on the coordinator duties. With no additional business, Mayor Dennis Weathers adjourned the meeting at 8:07 p.m.
