Aurelia council approves routine bills, accepts city attorney and waives further readings on mailbox ordinance

AURELIA — The Aurelia City Council on July 15 approved a slate of routine actions, including vendor payments, two resolutions and an ordinance change affecting mailboxes.
The meeting opened at 6:30 p.m. with Mayor Dennis Weathers and all five council members present. Council Member Nelson moved to approve the consent agenda; Council Member Redig seconded. The roll call vote recorded Redig, Nelson, Fassler, Johnson and Bruce as voting "aye," with no dissent, and the motion carried.
Among items carried on the consent agenda and in the financial reports were vendor payments and monthly revenue and disbursement tallies. The meeting record lists June revenues of $187,634.83 and additional totals shown in the packet.
On separate motions later in the meeting the council unanimously approved Resolution 24-12, "Resolution Setting Weed Control and Grass Fees," and Resolution 24-13, accepting Justin Vondrak of Vondrak Law Firm, P.L.C., as the city attorney for general legal services.
Council also approved a Hawk‑I Plumbing estimate of $6,202.30 to bore a storm-drain extension from the alley off Beech Street to the north side of 4th Street after a motion by Redig and second by Bruce; the motion passed with all members voting "aye."
Redig moved and Bruce seconded the first reading of Ordinance #708, an amendment to the city code concerning installation of mailboxes in the right of way. Council then voted to waive the second and third readings (Nelson moved, Redig seconded); all members voted "aye," effectively advancing the ordinance without further readings.
Redig also moved (seconded by Johnson) to appoint Lisa Grashoff to the library board, with the proviso that if a city resident living within city limits applies for the seat they may be considered; the motion passed unanimously.
The meeting adjourned at 8:25 p.m.
