Resident urges Atkins to adjust garbage pickup schedule, cites missed collections and truck-safety concerns

At the start of the meeting a resident used the citizens-opportunity period to tell the council she has experienced repeated missed garbage and recycling collections and raised a safety concern about collection trucks backing into Avenue south of Bridge Road.
The resident said crews missed pickups three times over eight weeks after the pickup start time moved earlier (from a prior 7 a.m. schedule to a 5 a.m. start). She said the earlier start contributed to missed service during windy conditions and asked the council to consider moving the pickup time later or restoring the prior schedule. As a safety measure, she suggested west-side residents place carts on the east side of the street so collection trucks would not need to back into Avenue where visibility is limited.
Council members acknowledged the complaint and the administrator said the subject could be added to a future agenda for discussion and public notice. The resident asked the council to consider making a time change and publicizing it in advance so affected residents would be aware and have time to prepare.
