Fremont Township asks Atkins for help replacing Legion Hall generator

Andy Jones, clerk for the Fremont Township Trustees, told the Atkins City Council on Nov. 25 that the Legion Hall — which the trustees lease to the American Legion and which serves as an emergency shelter in the county emergency management plan — still needs a replacement generator.
Jones said the trustees have received about $463,000 from FEMA and about $150,000 from insurance, "a little over $613,000," but have spent about $667,000 on repairs, leaving a shortfall "about $54,000." He said the existing generator is not repairable and that G&H Electric (via Wayne Gimney) quoted $10,084 for a 20 kW unit.
Jones asked the council whether the city could help with repairs or replacement and what formal steps would be needed to pursue assistance. Mayor directed the item to the next agenda and Scott offered to develop an agreement between the city and the township for council consideration at the Dec. 9 meeting.
No formal financial commitment was made during the meeting; the council asked staff to prepare an agreement and return the matter for a future vote.
