Hundreds Theater update deferred after principal misses meeting

The Historic Preservation Commission deferred a scheduled update on the Hundreds Theater (1208 East Charleston Boulevard) after the project's principal, Jay Dapper of Dapper Companies, did not attend the June meeting.

Staff asked that the report be continued to the commission’s July 22 meeting so commissioners and staff could compile questions for the eventual presentation. Legal counsel noted that the item before the commission is a report and that the board will later evaluate whether "substantial progress" has been made under a settlement agreement; because Dapper was not present, commissioners would have no applicant response to consider at this meeting.

Vice Chair Jack Levine moved to continue the item to the July 22 meeting; the motion carried on a voice vote with the chair voting in favor. Staff asked commissioners to submit questions in advance so the applicant and staff can prepare responses at the next hearing.

Community development staff also asked that commissioners limit deliberation about the item at this meeting and instead place substantive questions on the record for the July presentation; the legal explanation emphasized the informational nature of the report and the commission’s role in later determining compliance with any settlement terms.

The continuation does not change any procedural deadlines in the settlement agreement; staff and legal said the commission will consider substantial-compliance information at the relevant annual or milestone review.
