Commission approves $100 monthly mileage payment for planning commissioners over legal objections

She said a broad flat payment "reads and is applied" as compensation when not tied to actual expenses and pointed to AG Opinion 96‑16 as precedent for receipts‑based reimbursements. Planning commissioners had proposed a flat $100 monthly payment; supporters argued it recognized real out‑of‑pocket travel and time.

After debate about precedent, home‑rule authority and audit risk, the commission adopted the planning commission’s recommendation by recorded vote (8‑1). Several commissioners said the amount is modest and intended to offset travel and incidental costs incurred in site visits and hearing preparation.
