Rolfe council approves consent agenda, sets March 30 hearing on proposed property tax levy

The City Council of the City of Rolfe met Feb. 9, 2026, at the community center and approved the consent agenda, confirmed several committee appointments and scheduled public hearings related to a proposed property tax levy and a resident's request to buy adjacent property.

Mayor Stephanie Sindt called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m., and Clerk Brandi Henderson recorded roll call showing Councilmembers Rob Jackson, Tammy Shimon, Aaron Cox, Lana Pratt and Brent Stewart present. Councilmembers Jackson and Shimon moved and seconded approval of the consent agenda, which included the agenda and minutes from Jan. 13 and Jan. 28 and bills; the motion carried with an "all ayes" vote.

Under unfinished business the council discussed the recycling committee and, by motion from Councilmember Lana Pratt, decided not to make any new appointments at this time. The council also voted to retain the current pool committee members (motion by Aaron Cox, second by Brent Stewart; all ayes). Mayor Sindt named Brent Stewart and Tammy Shimon to the nuisance abatement committee; a roll call of Pratt, Cox, Jackson, Stewart and Shimon was recorded as part of that appointment.

Fire Chief Munson provided an informational update about plans for acquiring a new fire truck; the meeting record notes the discussion but does not record a formal vote or funding decision. Resident Jim Pentico requested permission to buy a parcel directly behind his residence and said he had consulted a member of the Rolfe Rodeo Board, which expressed no objection; the council moved (Pratt/Shimon) and recorded an "all ayes" roll call to refer the request to a future public hearing.

Clerk Henderson told the council a court case concerning a parking violation is approaching, and that ash tree removal work is expected to take place in about six weeks. With insurance renewal upcoming, the council authorized Clerk Henderson to obtain a second quote from the same agent consulted last year (motion by Aaron Cox, second by Lana Pratt; all ayes). Councilmember Tammy Shimon said she would ask the contractor removing golf-course trees whether the material could be disposed of offsite rather than in the city tree dump.

The council scheduled a budget workshop for Feb. 16 at 5:30 p.m. at the community center. By motion of Brent Stewart and second by Tammy Shimon, the council set a public hearing on the proposed property tax levy for March 30 at the community center; the roll call (Shimon, Stewart, Jackson, Cox, Pratt) was recorded and the motion carried (all ayes). Council members noted that utility rate increases are expected in the coming month and began compiling a Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) list; no decisions were made during the meeting.

The meeting packet included payroll summaries and an itemized list of city bills, vendor payments and fund balances for January; these financial figures were presented as part of the council's materials. The meeting adjourned at 6:29 p.m. on a motion by Pratt and Shimon (all ayes).
