The Baxter City Council approved several formal actions at its March 9, 2026 meeting, adopting an EMC Insurance claim settlement for $65,246.26 and the City of Baxter Contingency Plan for Administrative Systems and Continuity of Operations. The council also set a public hearing on the FY2027 budget for April 13, 2026, at 5:30 p.m., and directed staff to publish notice as required by Iowa law.
Council voted unanimously (Churchill, Milligan, Schabilion and Smith) to adopt Resolution No. 2026-10 approving execution of the EMC Insurance claim settlement. The contingency plan was adopted by the same unanimous vote. The motions were moved and seconded on the record (resolution motion moved by Churchill and seconded by Milligan; contingency plan moved by Milligan and seconded by Smith).
The council recorded no opposing votes; member Bethards was noted absent. Council actions at the meeting otherwise included routine approvals such as the agenda and consent agenda, which were adopted at the opening of the session.
Next steps: staff will publish the legally required notice for the FY2027 budget public hearing; no vote on the budget was taken at this meeting.
