Beaman council approves fire department lease, schedules budget hearing and addresses nuisance properties

The Beaman City Council took several additional actions at the May 14 meeting that did not require extended debate.
The council approved a new lease with Van‑Wall for a 2025 John Deere gator for the fire department in the amount of $1,500 (motion by Brandon Schleisman, second by Jason Scafferi; Ayes: 4). Council also set a public hearing for June 11, 2025 at 6:30 PM to consider an amendment to the FY2025 budget (motion by Brandon Schleisman, second by Jason Scafferi; Ayes: 4).
Barry Brockman provided a brief update on the Homes for Iowa financing effort, noting Jeff Kolb of the Grundy‑Butler County Development Alliance is working with a bank but no financing has been finalized. The council confirmed that 104 Center Street will be burned by the Beaman Fire Department when conditions allow; cleanup of the foundation and reseeding will be considered after the burn and the sheriff’s office will be notified once a date is set. Clerk Denise Hoy was instructed to send junk vehicle notices to 207 Beckman as part of nuisance enforcement procedures.
