The Aitkin Public School District board acknowledged multiple staff departures, approved a hire for the music program, and heard parting remarks from Superintendent Dan at his final board meeting.
Board members publicly recognized resignations from several long-serving employees, including business office staff member Heather, longtime custodian Joanie Ekon, and Patty Baller. Members offered thanks for years of service and noted the personal contributions of departing staff.
On staffing, the board approved hiring Lauren Panko as the districts new band director to replace the departing band teacher; board members noted the hire should reassure families concerned about continuity in the music program.
At the end of the meeting Superintendent Dan delivered his final report and remarks to the board and community, thanking staff, board members and the community for their support over his years of service. "I have served Aitkin Public Schools with all I have to give and I'm ready to carry a lighter load in my life," Dan said, and board members offered appreciation and best wishes.
Board procedure: the consent agenda (which included personnel items) passed; one board member abstained on a specific contract item due to a personal conflict, but the larger consent motion carried.
